The Center is home to 36 Philippine Eagles, 18 of which are captive-bred. It also houses 10 other species of birds, 4 species of mammals and 2 species of reptiles. Simulating a tropical rain forest environment, the Center offers the visitor a glimpse into the country’s forest ecosystem. Although the exhibits are used primarily to help educate the Filipino people on conservation, the facility is also considered a major tourist attraction in Davao City.

How to get there

The Philippine Eagle Center (PEC) is about an hour drive from the city and can be reached either by private or public transport. Buses going to Calinan depart every 15 minutes from the Annil Terminal located at corner Quirino and San Pedro Extension. Bus fare is at P30. From Calinan, take a pedicab going to the PEC. The ride is about 10 minutes and will cost you P6. Before entering the PEC premises, the Davao City Water District will collect an entrance fee of P5 for adults and P3 for kids. PEC entrance costs P50 for adults and P30 for youth, 18 years old and below. Tour guiding and the use of kiosks are free of charge.

Entrance Fees

The facility charges a nominal fee, the proceeds of which are used to support conservation efforts of the Philippine Eagle Foundation. However, guided tour and use of kiosks in the facility are free of charge.

Tours and Reservations

Guided tour is free of charge. It is advisable that visitors call the Philippine Eagle Foundation office and book in advance to ensure the availability of tour guides.

The Visitor's Lounge of the Philippine Eagle Center was constructed to provide a favorable impression on visitors, and to help the Philippine Eagle Foundation promote its conservation efforts. The opening of the Visitor's Lounged on June 4, 2008 was headed by then Department of Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano, and Philippine Eagle Foundation President Lt. Gen. William K. Hotchkiss III (Ret.). The event was also attended by Department of Tourism-XI Regional Director Sonia Garcia, Congressman Vincent Garcia of Davao City 2nd District, Department of Tourism Under Secretary Eduardo Jarque Jr., and Executive Director Dennis Salvador of the Philippine Eagle Foundation. An average of 100,000 people visit the Philippine Eagle Center annually.

SM Lanang Premier Construction update

IN THE preview of SM Group's rising premier mall last March 22 for its tenant partners, the country's top retailers, food chains, service centers and merchants had a first look of the soon-to-open SM Lanang Premier.

"Davao plays a pivotal role in SM Supermall's expansion in Mindanao. The opening of SM City Davao in 2001, then considered a bold and formidable move, has opened for us a wealth of business opportunities in the south," SCMC president Anna Maria S. Garcia shared in her keynote speech.

The new mall, which is located at the northern part of the city, has a total land area of 100,000 square meters. It has a four-level structure built with a modern design inspired by the origami. It has a gross floor area of almost 145,000 square meters and a gross leasable area of approximately 84,000 square meters.

The new mall will carry some of the best features of existing SM Premier malls.

The Skygarden, which is located at the property's faƧade, will have restaurants amid a lush garden with refreshing water features. Inside the mall is the Flat CafĆ©, floating above the ground and offers a vast view of The Atrium. The mall’s Ground Level will house international retail brands like Forever 21, as well as key SM retail anchors, SM Supermarket, SM Department Store.

At the rear section of the mall will be a strip of restaurants both at the ground and second level overlooking the sprawling outdoor event area called The Park. Also on the second level are 6 Digital Theaters (including SM Center Stage), the IMAX Theatre, the SM Bowling Center, and the Science Discovery Center.

The mall's third floor will house the SMX Convention Center Davao, perfect for the growing MICE events (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) in the region.

Rising within the property is the Park Inn by Carlton of the Radisson Blu, which may also be accessed from the mall through a bridge way at the second floor.

All these facilities are SM's response to the growing demands not only of the Davao market but of the tourism industry and its nearby provinces as well.

The first class mall, SM Lanang Premier, incorporates green architecture and environment friendly features as part of SM’s sustainability efforts. The mall building itself takes only 40 percent of the total property with paver blocks used in the open parking area to minimize surface run-off water. It will also have the city’s first rain catchment system minimizing storm water peak flow, surface run-off and siltation.

The mall is also designed with skylights and will use LED to ensure efficient energy consumption. Park finders will also be installed at the Basement Parking to minimize carbon output from vehicles. It will also utilize recycled water for its cooling tower and for comfort room flushing.

SM Prime's biggest and first-of-its-kind premier mall development project in Mindanao, SM Lanang Premier is believed to set world-class malling and shopping standard in the region. It will re-shape the malling experience in Mindanao bringing luxury that is within reach.

The Peak at Gaisano Mall Davao

I haven't gone to Gaisano Mall of Davao for quite some time already and it made me unaware of what's actually new there. But my recent out loafing with Mikoi let me realized that I have squandered so much (new) things on that Mall. I am amazed by the mall's drastic changes, from their ceilings to their tiles and to spoil my day, Their new alfresco expansion at the carpark area which was called "The Peak".

Whats on The Peak? well, The Peak has a lot to offer to all davaoeƱos and tourists. You can either have a cup of coffee at Figaro while seizing the scenic view of the urban city, or you may eat italian dishes and pizza at Don Beppe's Pizza haus at the 3rd level, have some dip of chicken wings at Wings & Dips, try Mama Maria's Pizzeria's buy one take one pizza and or go eat at the other newly open stores there.

If you're on a family bonding, then The Peak is also the perfect place to visit especially at night, where the night view of davao is perfect. S
ome of the highlights are the fountains that turns into different colors. Here's some photos I gathered from the net.

Amazed already? don't be yet, because this is only just 1/3 of the real deal. Wait for more of The Peak very soon.

If you ever wonder where is this located at gaisano, just go to food court's exit. that's the exact entrance to The Peak. Go out and see it for yourself.
